Ohio House Bill 190 (HB190)

LOVEboldly's Position -

OPPOSED

The Given Name Act

Why Should Christians Care?

Summary

HB190 would prohibit a public school employee or contractor from referring to a student by anything other than the name listed on their birth certificate or a nickname and with the pronoun associated with their sex assigned at birth. Parents could give permission for their children to be referred to by other names or pronouns. It is unclear if parental permission would require employees or other students to use the name or pronouns or only allow the students to use them.

The same requirements would apply to employees and contractors without any relief to request that another name or pronoun be used.

Status

HB190 was introduced in the House on March 24, 2025, and was assigned to the House Education committee on March 26, 2025.
