LOVEboldly is outraged and deeply troubled by the assassination of Imam Muhsin Hendricks in Bethelsdorp, South Africa on February 15, 2025. Known as the world's first openly LGBTQIA+ imam, Imam Hendrick's work included popular social media videos preaching a message of hope and love for all people, particularly during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While a motive is unknown at this time, Imam Hendricks reportedly had just officiated a wedding for a Queer couple and his murder is thought to be a hate crime.
To quote ILGA World, "Our movement has lost a peacemaker, a bridge builder, and someone who set an example that reconciliation is possible through his courage and faith."
May Imam Hendricks and all the departed of all religions and faiths, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in power.
